Intach Mangaluru Chapter, in collaboration with Art Kanara Trust, organised a “Heritage Spot Sketching Programme” for the students of Mahalasa College of Visual Art along with “Visit to Museum” for the children of DKZPHP School, Mannagudde, on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Shreemanthibai Memorial Govt. Museum, Bejai, Mangalore. This is the second edition in its ongoing series titled “Exploring Mangalore Heritage.”
The museum curator, Dhanalakshmi Ammal, Ganesh Kumar, the headmaster of DKZPHP School, and Syed Asif Ali, artist and senior faculty of Mahalasa College of Visual Art, were the dignitaries present on the occasion. Subhas Basu, the convener of the Intach Mangaluru Chapter, initiated and introduced the programme and the dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Dhanalakshmi Ammal introduced the museum and gave a brief history of the magnificent heritage building. She invited the students to explore it. The headmaster, Ganesh Kumar, advised the students to observe and learn from the artists and the museum displays. Syed Asif Ali did a quick spot sketch to mark the inauguration of the event. He also guided the students in their drawings.
For nearly three hours, the students of both Mahalasa College and DKZPHP School were engrossed in sketching activities on the museum premises. In between, the children visited the museum galleries and were asked to submit a brief write-up about their visit.
The dignitaries were presented with a copy of the booklet “Chennu: A Profile of Mangaluru City’,” which was published recently by the Intach Mangaluru Chapter and Art Kanara Trust.
